Fleming Votes for Defense Authorization Act

Statement

Date: May 15, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after voting in favor H.R. 1735, the National Defense Authorization (NDAA) Act for Fiscal Year 2016.

"This NDAA provides our men and women in uniform with the resources they need to protect our country, including a pay raise. The bill strengthens Global Strike Command at Barksdale Air Force Base and realigns the Air Force's nuclear enterprise. The bill also includes my amendment to require the Department of Defense to justify its harmful reduction of our Army soldiers stationed at Fort Polk.

"Today's vote will ensure our troops have the support and resources they need to carry out their missions and protect our nation at home and abroad. While the defense bill passed the House today, it is unfortunate that Nancy Pelosi chose to lead many Democrats to oppose the bill and threaten a government shutdown because they want more money for their non-defense priorities, like welfare and green energy subsidies. With growing security threats that threaten our freedoms, we need to ensure that the federal government meets its first obligation of fully training and equipping our military."
