Rokita Statement on Hoosier State Line

Statement

Date: March 9, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Transportation

Representative Todd Rokita, a Member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, issued the following statement regarding the Hoosier State passenger rail line. Service for the Hoosier State line is slated to terminate April 1, 2015.

"I have a scheduled meeting with the Federal Railroad Administration's (FRA) acting administrator within the week where I fully intend to press this issue. At this time, the state of Indiana, assuming it wants to preserve the progress that has been made to date on this project and wants rail service in this part of the state to continue, should be exercising every legal option to protect the state's position. These rules do not apply in North Carolina after that state aggressively challenged the FRA, and I do not see why they should inconsistently apply in other states like Indiana. I am asking Secretary Foxx to overturn the FRA determination this week to ensure passenger rail service between Indianapolis and Chicago continues."
