Statement

Date: June 28, 2015

Hello,

It was a busy week in D.C. and I'm looking forward to being home and working throughout the district this week.

King v. Burwell

On Thursday, the Supreme Court made a ruling in the controversial King v. Burwell case. As a former prosecutor, I disagree with this ruling because it does not change the fact that the Affordable Care Act is still a fundamentally flawed law.

At the end of the day, it places government bureaucrats in between patients and their doctors, and raises costs for middle class families, seniors, and small businesses.

I'll continue to fight for patient-centered solutions that reduce the overall cost of healthcare, and do what I can to help those who continue to face hardships as a result of this burdensome law.

Appropriations

This week, we did a long full Appropriations Committee markup of the FY16 Labor, Health & Human Services Funding.

This is how the sausage gets made. Often they can go on for a while, which is fine by me - because I'm here to work for you.

We spent over 5 hours marking up this bill and ended up with legislation that will rein in damaging regulatory overreach, roll back harmful ObamaCare provisions, cut wasteful spending, and target investments to proven national programs.

Young Leaders

I got a chance to meet Sidney Senita from Ashtabula, who was in D.C. for the National Young Leaders Conference. She's an impressive young woman.

Keeping Electricity Affordable

As you may know, about 70% of electricity in Ohio comes from coal. President Obama and his EPA have made it clear, through their rulemaking process, that they want to shut down coal-fired power plants.

As a result of their rules and standards, two power plants in my district have been forced to shut down. This week, my colleagues and I fought back by passing the Ratepayer Protection Act (H.R. 2042) which would prevent the EPA from further implementing some of the most extreme carbon emissions standards in history.

It is an honor to serve you and be your voice in Congress.

Dave
