Reform Entitlements. Our entitlement programs constitute by far the greatest threat to our long-term fiscal health and national debt. At the same time, they are vital programs that our seniors and the most vulnerable in society depend on. We must implement meaningful reforms to ensure that they are accessible and viable for current retirees and future generations. We simply cannot afford to delay tough decisions and common-sense reforms any longer.
Improve Our Tax Code. We need to reduce and simplify the tax burden on working families and job creators. A tax code in excess of 73,000 pages is not a tax code that is working for average Americans and small business owners. We need a system that is fairer, that doesn't stifle growth and innovation, and that doesn't hide effective rates behind a wall of complexity.
Cut Wasteful Spending. The size, reach, and scope of the federal government has grown unchecked for decades and has accelerated dramatically in the Obama era. Bad programs face no scrutiny and even good programs are often marred by waste, fraud, and abuse. We need to slash federal spending while increasing accountability and transparency throughout the entire spending process. Our president must never forget that every penny of federal funds has been taken from a hardworking American and, therefore, comes with an obligation to strict fiscal discipline.
Adopt a Balanced Budget Amendment. Washington has proven time and again that without a balanced budget, the temptation to spend money we do not have is too great. We need a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget. Imposing fiscal discipline will ensure that we set clear priorities, make tough choices, and live within our means as a nation.
