Northeast Georgia Rep. Doug Collins: 2016 GOP Budget Would "Renew Opportunity for All"

Today, Congressman Doug Collins (GA09), calling it a "win for conservatives," voted for a pro-growth Republican budget that would balance the federal deficit in 10 years without raising taxes.

Touting nearly $5.5 trillion in spending cuts, more than in any previous House Budget Committee proposal, the Republican House member argued that "federal spending is out of control. The current Administration has spent more than all others in history, doubling our national debt, resulting in an increase in poverty and unemployment."

He said returning taxpayer money would free the American economy to produce jobs and economic growth, which the Congressional Budget Office predicts could shrink under current patterns. "The answer to our economic problems is liberty, not more government dependency that deprives Americans of opportunity and self-respect."

The CBO reports that by 2025 federal payments on the national debt will overtake competing spending categories, such as national defense. Social Security, Disability Insurance and Medicare face looming insolvency, if the entitlement programs continue un-reformed. "Americans want to leave a better future to their children," said the Congressman. "With this budget, we're keeping our promise to them and the next generation."

The 2016 GOP Balanced Budget for a Stronger America would replace Obamacare, including its taxes and regulations, with patient-centered changes. It would grant federal funds to states to more efficiently manage food assistance programs, as well as to manage the low-income health service Medicaid. The budget would simplify the tax code to save filers time and expense.

"Democrats' command-and-control economy mostly benefits Washington, D.C.," said Collins."To help hardworking men and women in Northeast Georgia and across the country, still waiting for a recovery seven years after a recession, House Republicans have produced this ground-breaking bill to renew opportunity for all."
