Today, Congressman Kevin Cramer issued the following statement after Senate Democrats prevented floor consideration of the Defense Appropriations Bill.
"Today's actions by Senate Democrats are unacceptable and voters are right to be outraged. They need to understand the power of the filibuster cannot become the power to shut down the government. Their obstructionism threatens funding for vital government agencies, including a well-deserved pay raise for the members of the U.S. Military the House approved last week. The American people expect us to work together for the common good of our nation. Every Senate Democrat needs to ask themselves if their partisan interests are more important than supporting our military and their families because the voters are asking the same question. I urge everyone to stand up to this partisan lunacy and contact your U.S Senator and demand a vote on every appropriation bill," said Cramer.
With the passage of the Defense Appropriations Act last week, the U.S. House of Representatives has passed 6 of its 12 appropriations bills. As of this writing the U.S. Senate has not passed any appropriations bills. The last time the U.S. Senate passed a regular appropriations bill was in 2009. Congress must pass an appropriations bills prior to the end of the federal government's fiscal year on September 30th to prevent a government shutdown.
