Cramer Statement on Iran Nuclear Deal

Statement

Date: April 2, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today Congressman Kevin Cramer made the follow statement about the proposed nuclear deal with Iran.

"As with most agreements the devil will be in the details. Like most Americans, I hope this framework for an agreement will help lead to a more stable and peaceful Middle East but Iran's recent statements and actions make it remote at best. Israel is our staunchest ally in the region and their security should be a priority. Statements from Iranian leaders such as "Israel's destruction is non-negotiable", are unacceptable. If our best-friend in the region is to have any confidence in this agreement, the United States must ensure full Iranian disclosure of its nuclear program as well as continued sanctions to ensure Iran's compliance with the agreement. Any final deal must include strong economic sanctions if Iran fails to fully live up to any part of the agreement. Congress must be able to vote up or down on any final agreement. The United States should also demand that U.S. citizens currently held against their will in Tehran be released before any agreement is finalized," said Cramer.
