Issues: Abortion

On the 42nd Anniversary of the March for Life, the House passed the No Taxpayer for Abortion Act this past Thursday. I was proud to co-sponsor and vote in favor of this bill, just as I have done in previous Congresses. This legislation prevents the use of taxpayer funds for abortions and is a step in the right direction for our pro-life movement.

Following that vote, it was again my privilege to host more than 300 Wisconsin pro-lifers who traveled to Washington to stand-up for the rights of the unborn. The first march included 20,000 participants, this year's march garnered nearly 750,000 -- the average age of a marcher was under 30.

This year's open house featured several Members from our Wisconsin Congressional delegation, and we were also glad to have Lila Rose join us as well. At just 26 years old, she is one of the most well known people in our movement. She is a champion for life and a great role model for the younger activists.

Despite relatively minimal coverage of the march in national news, word of our movement is growing thanks to the younger marchers and their digital media savvy. Now, a young person on the other side of the country knows there are hundreds of thousands of people their age who think just as they do. I enjoyed following posts from the march participants throughout the day. In my comments to them, I challenged them to not just march, but also walk the walk. When they return home I hope they will continue to use social media to meet people where they are and evangelize our cause.

Of course, the march was not the only thing happening in Washington this week. On Tuesday, the President gave his annual State of the Union address to the nation. Please see the column on the right for a wrap-up of coverage and my thoughts from this year's speech.

I have several things brewing that I will continue to provide updates on in this newsletter, but for real time updates of the work I am doing on your behalf (and the opportunity to offer real time feedback), please be sure to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Until next week…
