Rep. Wagner Statement on Letter to Attorney General regarding Backpage.com

Statement

Date: Jan. 29, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Ann Wagner released the following statement after sending a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder along with Senators Mark Kirk (R-IL), Tom Cotton (R-AK) and Richard Shelby (R-AL) and Representatives Diane Black (R-TN) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), encouraging the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to immediately investigate and dismantle Backpage.com's unconscionable on-line sex advertisements:

"For years, Backpage.com's "adult entertainment' section has allowed the company to profit from the exploitation of victims of sex trafficking practically unchecked. Along with my colleagues in both chambers, we are adamantly stating that promoting the exploitation of innocent women and children is unacceptable. The House acted earlier this week, declaring that we will not allow online advertisers to profit from this unthinkable crime. Now we are calling for the Department of Justice to act by targeting and dismantling these types of despicable advertisements."
