Quigley Goes "Undercover" with Redbox

Press Release

Date: Jan. 21, 2015
Location: Chicago, IL

Yesterday, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) went "undercover" as a Redbox employee at their headquarters in Oakbrook Terrace. Redbox, an Outerwall Inc. brand, offers new-release DVD, Blu-ray Disc® and video-game rentals through its network of conveniently located, self-service kiosks. Barb Conrath, a Redbox Field Merchandiser, trained Rep. Quigley before going out on the road to refill and service kiosks around Chicago, including stops at a Wal-Mart and Walgreen's in Villa Park.

"Yesterday's "Undercover Congressman' visit gave me an opportunity to learn more about a 21st century business, Outerwall Inc., which has grown into a $2 billion company over the past 10 years. Redbox has hardworking employees, like Barb, who service and maintain kiosks," said Rep. Quigley. "As a Redbox employee for over eight years, Barb has seen this business grow from just a few kiosks, to thousands in Illinois alone. Barb's knowledge of the industry allowed me to get an inside look at the logistical and technical training required for a business as sophisticated as Redbox. Thank you to everyone at Redbox and Outerwall for such an informative day and for the work they are doing in Illinois' Fifth District."
