Cassidy Comments on Increasing Obamacare Premiums

Press Release

Date: Oct. 9, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) criticized the announcement that some Louisiana health insurers are imposing double-digit increases in 2015 for polices sold under Obamacare.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, the state's largest provider, will increase certain plans' rates between 18.3 percent and 19.7 percent, affecting 52,638 Louisianans. Humana Health Benefits Plan rates will increase by 9.9 percent. Vantage Health Plan Inc. will increase rates by 15.89 percent.

Dr. Cassidy released the following statement:

"Increasing healthcare premiums is another hurdle for families and businesses already struggling under the demands of Obamacare. President Obama and his Democrat supporters said that premiums would go down for the typical family by $2,500. This was a false promise. Premiums have gone up by 53 percent for the average Louisiana policyholder and many of these policies will again see double-digit increases. It's unfair to Louisianans who have to balance their budgets and their businesses. Its clear Obamacare is not working and I will continue to push for patient-centered, affordable healthcare solutions."
