Safe communities are created when there is a culture of respect for rights and property. The Second Amendment guarantees that our government will respect the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms, and, as a strong supporter of the NRA, I will proudly uphold the Second Amendment. As Supervisor of the Town of Deerpark, I led the charge against the SAFE Act, making Deerpark the first town to issue a resolution opposing this ineffective and dangerous law. The SAFE Act will not only fail to protect our citizens from violent crime, it will actually divert resources away from where they should go to provide that protection: increasing the presence of police and safety officers in at-risk areas; enhanced resources for our families and communities to deal with mental illness; and programs to get guns out of the hands of actual criminals.
