Former Arkansas House Majority Leader and Fourth District Congressional Candidate Bruce Westerman (R-Hot Springs) today released the following statement after receiving the endorsement of the National Rifle Association for his general election campaign to represent the Fourth District in the 114th Congress:

"I am honored to receive this important endorsement from the NRA, and to stand with those who defend the Second Amendment. This endorsement is recognition of the work of House Republicans in Little Rock, who in 2013 lessened hassles from the government and created more freedoms for Arkansans through the passage of SIMPLE Plan and other pro-Second Amendment laws, including Act 746 which I proudly co-sponsored.

"The Bill of Rights is not a menu that we get to pick and choose from. In Congress, I will fight to ensure that remains so."

In his letter of endorsement, NRA Chairman Chris Cox wrote that, throughout Westerman's service, he had "consistently opposed all attempts to ban lawfully owned firearms and magazines, and have vowed to stand strong against President Obama and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's gun control agenda."

Cox also noted Westerman's "A" rating from the NRA, and praised his votes to expand and protect Arkansas's concealed weapons laws, including the closing of a loophole that allowed the names of CHCL holders to be published.
