I've worked as a commercial fisherman in Prince William Sound, and was raised in two communities- Eagle and Cordova- that both depend on fishing. I know first-hand that healthy fisheries are vital to our economy, and an integral part of who we are as Alaskans.
Unfortunately, our current representative has not adequately stood up for one of our most important fisheries- Bristol Bay. This year, Don Young cosponsored legislation to let the Pebble mega-project go through permitting, saying that, "My concern for this process is much bigger than the Pebble Mine, in my eyes this isn't even about the Pebble Mine."
I disagree. No issue is more important or "bigger than" our fisheries
With regards to federal fisheries, I will fight to ensure that Alaskans are represented at the table and that we are always working to get as large a share as possible for Alaska. I want people who actually live in the state to have the inside track at fishing our waters. That also means investing in infrastructure so that some of the larger ships can be home-ported in Alaska.
