The North Shore of Boston is not only home to some of the most beautiful beaches, it is also a place where generations of families have grown up fishing. From lobster to pollock to sea scallops, it's all found off the coast of Gloucester, Newburyport and Rockport. Over the last several years, the industry has lagged due to over-fishing and the absence of a long-term vision. As a result, fishermen, and the entire fishing industry, are struggling to make ends meet. We need a sustainable solution to the fishing crisis that makes fishermen whole and stabilizes the region to thrive through the fluctuations of the fishing industry.
In Congress, I will not only secure funding to help solve the fishing crisis, I will also work alongside fishermen to identify and implement a long-term strategy that revives the industry. Our leaders must transition from viewing the fishing industry with a sense of forlorn to a spirit of progressive action to move this crisis toward solutions and stability.
