Issue Position: Ending the War in Afghanistan

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014
Issues: Defense

"It is the responsibility of America's civilian and defense leaders to pursue strategies worthy of the heroic sacrifice of American service members. Nation building in a country that is corrupt to its core is a failed policy. It is long past time to end the war in Afghanistan and re-tool our anti-terrorism strategies to meet credible threats to America's national security around the world."

Congressman Welch:

-Is a leading opponent in the House of the war in Afghanistan and has consistently opposed funding it;

-Co-authored legislation to responsibly bring the war to an end;

-Assembled a bipartisan coalition of House lawmakers opposed to the war;

-Took on corrupt war contractors in Afghanistan and passed legislation in the House to stop the Afghan government from taxing assistance from American taxpayers.
