Keeping Our Promise To Troops and Veterans
We have a sacred obligation to meet the promises made to those who serve and protect our country. Dick Durbin has played a vital role in equipping our active military as well as honoring and caring for America's veterans and improving their transition back to civilian life.
Dick fought to increase combat pay for service members and improve pay for National Guardsmen and Reservists on active duty, while also ensuring that our troops have the protective equipment they need on the battlefield.
He championed providing caregivers to 11,000 wounded warriors and their families, increased funding for prosthetic and orthotic research for injured veterans, and shook up the bureaucracy to speed up the VA claims process. He worked with Republican Senate colleague Mark Kirk to secure funding to merge the Navy and Veterans medical centers in North Chicago and helped the Lovell Federal Medical Center become the first facility in the country to streamline the transition from active duty to veteran status by merging electronic medical records from multiple bureaucracies.
