Back in 2008, Dick Durbin brought business and labor, Democrats and Republicans, together to find common ground and agree on a solution to help small businesses provide affordable health care coverage to their employees. His legislation was ultimately incorporated into broader health care reform legislation enacted in 2010.
Today, Dick is working to fix and improve the new health care law because he knows, despite the inexcusable technical problems incurred in its rollout, that we can never go back to the days when insurance companies could deny coverage due to pre-existing conditions, cap health benefits if you become seriously ill, or charge women higher prices for the same coverage.
