The United States and Ohio Constitutions expressly grant citizens freedom of association. This means that the government cannot prevent private sector employees from joining whatever organization they please. However, it is against our country's founding principles to force citizens to join or contribute their hard-earned money to a union organization against their will. Americans have the constitutional right to exercise their political beliefs in any way they see fit--meaning the constitutional right to associate also encompasses the right not to associate. Like any other organization, unions should have to persuade (rather than force) their members to join, and should never be allowed to forcefully take their members' money to spend in support of left-wing causes that many of their members disagree with.

Additionally, becoming a Right to Work state will allow Ohio to remain economically competitive with other states. This is particularly true for Northwest Ohio, because Michigan and Indiana are already Right to Work states.
