Issue Position: Immigration

Issue Position

VISION: America is an immigrant nation. As such, illegal immigration is caused by poorly constructed legal immigration policies, policies the federal government has failed to fix.

HARD WORK: Until the federal government takes action, Utah is left to decide what to do with our illegal immigrant neighbors who are living in our communities. In crafting these policies the most balanced way to approach the issues of illegal immigration are outlined in the Utah Compact. I will work to stay on top of the ever changing issues as they develop in this arena. States must be able to make the decisions facing this difficult problem. We must not be subjected to either the lack of federal oversight or unfunded mandates that bind our ability to deal with these issues.

States must be able to make the decisions facing this difficult problem. We must not be subjected to either the lack of federal oversight or unfunded mandates that bind our ability to deal with these issues.
CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT: It's important for us to know what changes are happening on the federal level so the states are ready to respond quickly. I will be providing multiple ways to inform you and seek your input. With so many states now taking a variety of approaches to resolving the dilemma, we need to be a strong, clear voice on where we stand as a community and as a state.

REAL SOLUTIONS: Let's know who is living in our state so they can pay their fair share. We need to keep moving on the federal level with our representatives to change the national fetters that stop us from taking care of the financial and legal problems we face as a result of not being able to effectively identify and deal with the illegal immigrants in our communities. Currently, the state has legislation in place that demands federal attention. I will work with legislators to make certain we don't lose ground moving forward.
