Issue Position: Helping Job Seekers

Issue Position

Senator Fontana proudly provided grant funding in 2011 to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, aimed at creating a program that helps job seekers build upon a skill-set. Skills for Success: The Fontana Series is a free workshop where attendees can learn the ins and outs of the job searching process and receive one-on-one assistance on: building resumes; writing cover letters; completing online applications; participating in mock interviews; and more. The Senator has been thrilled to hear from individuals who have landed a job after attending a workshop, having taken the information and put lessons learned into practice.

By publishing a monthly jobs listing as part of his News & Views, Senator Fontana directly reaches constituents who may be seeking employment. This listing features over 100 local and regional organizations that have job openings and provides links so constituents can apply directly online. The "Jobs Window" in the Senator's office is also updated regularly to reflect companies looking for workers.
