Taxes. During the "Great Recession," the Georgia Budget has been trimmed from 23 billion in 2008 to 19.9 billion in 2013. Our legislature has effectively cut spending, made government more efficient, and done so with a balanced budget. As our economy grows and heads back up, we must remain fiscally conservative, avoiding temptation to tax and spend while tweaking our tax system carefully. Also, we must be proactive in preserving and improving where possible the Stephens-Day homestead exemption which effectively freezes property taxes for the homeowner.
