Massachusetts police officers, firefighters and district attorneys are committed to keeping us safe, protecting us from criminals, and pursuing justice when crimes are committed. As a state, we need to make sure that we are affording our public safety and criminal justice officials the resources and tools they need to do their jobs.

Going forward, there are many more initiatives we can pursue to make our citizens safer.

This legislative session, the Republican Caucus hopes it can get "Melissa's Bill" passed through the Legislature. "Melissa's Bill" was filed in the memory of Melissa Gosule, a then-27-year-old teacher who was murdered in 1999 by a repeat offender who had served less than two years in jail for a combined 27 criminal convictions.

"Melissa's Bill" was refiled for multiple session, most recently in January of 2009 and has been stuck in the Judiciary Committee since March of the same year.

This is just one of many bills our caucus is focused on getting accomplished.
