Issue Position: State Budget

Issue Position

Over the years as Commissioner in Cheltenham and as President of the Board of Commissioners, I have voted for budgets that did not raise taxes and some that did. There are times you need to do so. Government provides critical services for the common good, and we must pay for the services.

Pennsylvania is not a poor state. The Commonwealth has money to invest in education and social services. For example, we can tax shale extraction and gain at least $600 million. We can close the Delaware and other corporate loopholes and end certain business tax cuts and credits proposed by Corbett. The PA Budget and Priorities Center indicates that ending the new business tax breaks could generate over $1 billion a year. As your State Senator, I will work to look for new revenue to support the critical government activities that promote the common good.
