New attacks on women have emerged in the past few years with the rise of the Tea Party and a blame-the-victim mentality. Disparities in health care reduce women's quality of life disproportionately. Women not only face higher rates of poverty and violence but persistent discrimination as well. As an attorney, I have represented women facing housing discrimination based on gender and also based on having children. As your State Senator I intend to fight for women's rights on several fronts:
Protecting a woman's right to choose and the use of public funding to do so.
Raising the minimum wage to $11/ hour, which will benefit over 550,000 women in Pennsylvania.
Funding domestic violence prevention programs and shelters.
Fighting actively against gender discrimination, pay inequities, and health care disparities.
