The cornerstone of my personal and political philosophy is the inherent rights and value of every individual. Each and every one of us are endowed with inalienable rights -- we posses these rights simply by virtue of our humanity. The role of the government is not to grant us rights but to defend them. The New Hampshire Bill of Rights is clear when it states that we all possess "natural, essential, and inherent rights -- among which are, the enjoying and defending life and liberty; acquiring, possessing, and protecting, property; and, in a word, of seeking and obtaining happiness. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by this state " I will always fight to ensure that our government lives up to this promise of equality and liberty.
