I am dedicated to supporting retired and active military service members and their families. I truly value the sacrifice they have made and continue to make for our country, whether on the battlefield, in support roles, or during training. They risk their lives and health for our safety and freedom; we owe it to these heroes to treat them with respect and dignity both while they are abroad and when they return home.

Too often veterans face a maze of bureaucracies, and can struggle to receive health care, counseling, disability services, transportation, and education assistance. They can face a life of hardship, despite their courage and service to the United States.

Recent news stories of improvements in waiting times to receive federal disability payments are encouraging, but we have a tremendous amount of work ahead of us on that and other fronts. We must continue efforts to connect well-trained veterans with employers seeking to hire people who know how to exercise judgment and responsibility. We must partner with the veterans, communities, and family organizations that exist to help coordinate and ease the transition back home. We also should make sure to emphasize and provide the support military families and children deserve while their loved ones are serving away from home. Veterans and active-duty service members go through and have gone through so much; we should honor their sacrifice with our own vigilance in streamlining programs and services to provide them and their families with the support they need and deserve.
