What does the 10th Amendment have to do with being the Kansas Secretary of State?
When Secretary Kobach took the Oath of Office, he promised to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Kansas Constitution. He takes this very seriously. That is why he has decided to work in his official capacity to stand up for states' rights when it comes to many difference issues. The most recent being the Obama Administrations decision to put the lesser prairie chicken on the endangered species list.
What does the lesser prairie chicken being listed as endangered have to do with the Kansas Secretary of State's Office?
That is a great question with a very simple answer.
It impacts Kansas businesses.
Much of Kansas business is involved in agriculture, cattle, and oil. In fact nationwide, Kansas ranks 7th in agriculture, 3rd in cattle, and 10th in oil. These are the businesses that keep Kansas thriving, and having the federal government put the lesser prairie chicken on the endangered species list would have an extremely negative impact on these businesses, many of which are run by small family farms, and Secretary Kobach wants to protect Kansas business owners.
