Too often our politicians try to rule over us rather than represent us. Too often they pass laws that they feel are in our "best" interest. But since when did it become the business of the government to decide what we do in our own personal lives?
My friends, the PROPER role of government is to protect our rights. That among these rights are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. And so long as our actions do not take away someone else's rights (for instance if we rob someone, that is taking away their right to private property), then the government really has no business getting involved in our decisions or our actions.
This is what Liberty is all about, allowing everyone to make their own decisions about their own lives even when we think they are totally wrong. If we compromise that principle, then government ceases to defend freedom and instead becomes a shouting match of who can be the loudest on any given issue. That is not freedom. That is not America.
