Issue Position: Affordable Health Care

Issue Position

I strongly support efforts to improve access to affordable health care in Wisconsin. While the Affordable Care Act may not be perfect, I support its goal of increasing access and reducing the number of people living without health insurance. I believe Wisconsin should have accepted federal money to expand access to Medicaid rather than throwing tens of thousands of people off of BadgerCare. I believe that Wisconsin should have developed its own health care exchange rather than relying on the federal exchange, so that we could have designed a system that would work best for our state. Our neighbors in Minnesota chose that option and have a better-functioning exchange and lower healthcare costs for their residents. We should do the same. Wisconsin has a history of leadership on health care access and innovation, and I will work to make us a leader again.
