Issues: Immigration

I've had the good fortune to travel all over the world and live in a foreign country, France, for four years. Americans are the most compassionate people on the planet, and our benevolence is borne out of our free-market system. It creates virtuous cycles. The free-market can ONLY exist when government fulfills its most basic responsibilities: enforce laws equally and protect property rights.

Immigration challenges are increasingly complex as a result of the current federal policy not to enforce our immigration laws. I sympathize with children that were brought to Florida, illegally, when they were very young. It's important, however, to recognize that these "Dream Act" children are the victims of the decisions made by their parents, rather than those made by Americans.

I am committed to working with other elected officials to address these problems in a compassionate way. It is possible to to help the disenfranchised without diluting the rights of citizens.
