"No one knows how to spend your money better than you do."
During the last week of the 2014 legislative session, our Republican-led government passed a budget of $77 Billion, the largest in Florida history.
Many Florida seniors live on a fixed income, so it is critical that government not create legislation that increases their living expenses. Seniors are already dealing with significant inflation and the reduced buying power of our currency, due to President Obama's fiscal policies. Common sense dictates that our legislators should have been focused on reducing barriers and restrictions on Florida's businesses, which will allow Florida's economy to grow.
In an effort to keep up appearances, the Republican-led Legislature just voted to reduce some of the taxes they, themselves, raised in 2009. The decrease in taxes represented a little more than one half of one percent of the overall budget.
When it comes to taxes, Milton Friedman best sums up my philosophy:
"I am in favor of cutting taxes under any circumstance and for any excuse, for any reason, whenever it's possible." - Milton Friedman
