No issue robs Michigander's of their liberty more than taxes. Jim agrees with the Tea Party mantra that we're "Taxed Enough Already". Michigan's fiscal problems are not due to a lack of tax revenue, they are due to too much government spending. And, although a lot good work and generational reforms have been achieved, the turnaround work is not done. Michigan must continue a cost cutting trajectory. We need to reduce the size and cost of state government, and Jim Runestad will take that philosophy to Lansing.
He would also take his experience in Oakland County's multi-year budgeting process to help with fiscal planning at the state level, and push to have budget surpluses earmarked for debt-reduction instead of increased spending.
