Congressman Pallone opposed the Republican Romney-Ryan budget that would end Medicare as we know it. The Romney-Ryan plan would effectively end the Medicare guarantee and turn Medicare into a voucher program that would put the burden of medical cost on seniors. The privatization of Medicare would break a promise that we have held to seniors for decades. Based on calculated estimates, it would increase cost for healthcare for seniors by over $6,000 per year. Instead of keeping our promise to seniors, the Romney-Ryan plan balances the budget on seniors' backs and gives tax cuts to millionaires. Congressman Pallone has consistently fought to preserve the Medicare guarantee and keep our promise to seniors so they can rely on the benefits they have earned. Thanks to Congressman Pallone's efforts, seniors now have stronger Medicare benefits than ever before. Social Security was a promise made by Congress to ensure every person, upon retirement or disability, had a source of income that would be there at all times. For 75 years, Congress has made good on this promise, and that should not change in the future. Representative Pallone opposes all measures that would privatize Social Security.
