Issue Position

Completion of the North South Freeway has been a topic since I was born and I hope that it is complete before I pass away.

The taxpayers will save a lot of road repair money each year by moving heavy truck traffic to a road system designed to carry those loads and reduced travel time will improve Spokane Citizens lives and help the environment. However, Spokane was promised $720 million to complete this project back in 2005 but only received a very small portion. The Washington State Department of Transportation has been plagued with several large project failures and Spokane's projects continue to be placed on hold to help the west side traffic troubles.

Until the citizens of Spokane get solid guarantees that our projects will be funded and some major reforms are made in the current WA DOT, neither you as the taxpayer nor I as your representative can support an additional gas tax increase.
