Issue Position: Fighting to Secure our Nation's Borders

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014

Raúl supports strengthening border security, and cracking down on illegal immigration both in Idaho and across America. Raul immediately called for hearings investigating the "Fast and Furious" scandal which gave taxpayer- funded weapons to Mexican drug cartels and led to the murder of a U.S. border agent. Raul subsequently called upon U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to resign.

It remains imperative that we redouble our efforts to secure our borders and control illegal immigration. In Congress, Raúl supports real immigration reform that puts border security and enforcement of immigration laws first. In this Congress, Raul was proud to cosponsor and vote for H.R. 1505, the most important border security measure voted on in the 112th Congress. This important measure would ensure that along our nation's borders, national security should be job number one. It would prohibit land management agencies from interfering with the Border Patrol's enforcement activities or throwing up environmental hoops for the enforcement agents to jump through.
