Transportation: Paving the Way to Prosperity by Improving our Infrastructure
Our area consistently rates among the worst in traffic congestion regions in the country, with local drivers sitting in traffic twice as long as the national average.
Aruna has used her 23 years of experience as a transportation engineering to help guide policies that ensure Maryland invest in a world class transportation infrastructure.
In 2013 she provided testimony in support of the Transportation Infrastructure Investment Act of 2013 that will ensure that Maryland continues to invest in the roadways & transit projects that are critical for Montgomery County.
Aruna is a strong proponent of Corder City Transit Way which is important to District 15. The construction of this transit project is critical as region continues to attract high tech and biotech industries and as our up-county region continue grow.
Aruna believes that solving our transportation problems requires a holistic approach that is why she sponsored and passed legislation to increase the state's telework quota. In areas where today's technology innovations allow workers to work from home or closer home has a net effect of decreasing capacity.
The Inter-County Connector (ICC) is an important thoroughfare for the citizens of the District 15. Aruna has been on the forefront of raising the concerns that the tolls are too high, the speed limit it too low, and the enforcement is too excessive. In 2013 she introduced legislation to raise the speed limit on the ICC from 55 mph to 70 mph. While this bill was unsuccessful, the State Highway was moved to make an increase on the speed limit to 60 mph.
Aruna has worked with supporting many constituents in District 15 to ensure the State Highway Administration addresses local concerns on neighborhood access, bicycle facilities and road repairs.
