Supporting our public education system:

If we cannot support the education of young people, Maine's economy will not grow and our businesses will suffer at the hands of an unqualified workforce.

Our public education system faces the same budgetary challenges each year. Biddeford has been faced with deciding which positions to cut and which maintenance projects to put on hold. These decisions have adverse effects on education and the long-term tax burden. In 2009, Biddeford voters approved a much needed $34 million renovation project to our high school. This project, while needed, has hit taxpayers with great force. We should not be stuck sacrificing money to pay the bills in order to fund these large projects. Instead, public education must have the available resources to sustain its infrastructures. This means that state funding must be available for public education -- allowing private schools to pick from those same coffers compromises our commitment to adequate public funding.
