Joyce Votes for Water Infrastructure Bill that Supports Great Lakes, Job Creation

Statement

U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) released the following statement today after voting in favor of the conference report to H.R. 3080, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA).

"The passage of this bipartisan water infrastructure bill is a win for Northeast Ohio," Joyce said. "Waterways and ports support 21,000 jobs in our state and directly contribute $3.1 billion to Ohio's economy. Recognizing the danger that invasive species pose to the vitality of the Great Lakes, this legislation also includes an important provision to fight the spread of Asian carp.

"Overall, WRRDA makes necessary improvements to our nation's water infrastructure system, cuts burdensome red tape and opens the door for the private sector to create thousands more American jobs. For the first time in history, it also contains no earmarks. This is how government is supposed to work -- the House and Senate coming together to create legislation that positively impacts our nation's economy and the lives of millions of Americans while staying accountable to hardworking taxpayers."

The conference report to H.R. 3080 passed the House in a vote of 412-4. Once both Houses of Congress approve the conference report, the bill can be sent to President Obama to be signed into law.
