Lujan Grisham Statement on Memorial Day

Statement

Today, U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day. This evening at 6 pm, Congresswoman Lujan Grisham will participate in the Inclusive NM LGBT Veterans Memorial at Veterans Memorial Park in Albuquerque.

"Each year on Memorial Day, we come together to pay tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation. I join in honoring the memory of the brave Americans who have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our way of life, including the 2,316 Americans who have died in Afghanistan and 4,476 who have died in Iraq.

"As we continue to support our troops around the world, we must also re-commit ourselves to the promises made to them when they return home. This means ensuring that the services provided to our veterans through the VA are of the highest quality, including ending the backlog of VA disability claims, and providing our veterans with good jobs and the opportunity to pursue higher education. As our heroes, they deserve nothing less.

"To the men and women who are now or have ever served in our nation's Armed Forces- thank you. May you, your families and your friends have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day."
