Congressman McNerney Gets Senate Support For Water Conservation Bills

Today, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09) announced that two water efficiency bills he wrote and introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives will be introduced in the U.S. Senate. The legislation includes tax credits for water-efficient purchases & grants to help rural water agencies implement innovative water solutions.

"I'm pleased the Senate will start work on my legislation," said Rep. McNerney. "These are commonsense programs that help consumers save money and create jobs while protecting our natural resources. And with much of the country, including California, enduring one of the worst droughts in a generation, I encourage both the House and Senate to act quickly and pass these bills."

The Water Efficiency Improvement Act would provide up to a $2000 tax credit for individuals and businesses when they buy EPA WaterSense products. WaterSense certified products and services are at least 20 percent more efficient than other products in their class.

The Community Water Enhancement Act provides grants to rural and agriculture areas to partner with other utility agencies to develop innovative water projects that benefit multiple regions.

Congressman McNerney continues to be a leader on water efficiency. Earlier this year the House passed an amendment offered by the Congressman that encourages commercial building owners and tenants to invest in cost-effective energy efficiency measures.
