Rokita Fights for Hoosier Energy, Lower Energy Costs

Rep. Todd Rokita released the following statement following the passage of the Electricity Security and Affordability Act, H.R. 3826, legislation he cosponsored to protect Hoosier energy prices.

"If the President is truly fighting for people to build better lives for themselves, which is my mission every day, then why must the President and his Administration insist on sticking Hoosiers with higher energy prices in such a tough economy?

Driven by ideology, the President is disregarding the negative impact his rules will have on the lives of millions who rely on Hoosier energy sources for jobs and fuel. It must stop. A stable growing energy industry, like coal and natural gas, means a better life for Hoosiers and all Americans. I will continue fighting for all people so they can build better lives for themselves and their families without the need for government handouts," Rokita said. Audio

This bill stops an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed rule for greenhouse gas standards on new sources and places requirements on any future regulations on addressing greenhouse gas emissions from new or existing power plants. Regulations on new coal plants are just the first step. Their ultimate goal is to eradicate the coal industry. Hoosiers know this is not acceptable and it would cripple Indiana's economy.

In 2011, Rep. Rokita launched his Red Tape Rollback initiative to target unnecessary, burdensome and economically destructive regulations such as these for defeat or repeal. Learn more about Red Tape Rollback here.
