Joyce Takes a Stand Against Presidential Overreach

Press Release

Date: Feb. 26, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) joined a group of lawmakers denouncing the Administration's use of executive orders. The lawmakers were joined by Dr. Larry Kawa, a Florida orthodontist who has filed a lawsuit against the Administration after spending significant time, legal fees, and other resources in preparation for the ACA's January 1st, 2014 employer mandate only to see it delayed because of a unilateral decision by the President.

In recent statements, the Administration has indicated that if it doesn't get what it wants, it will simply bypass Congress. Joyce stated:

"This notion of an imperial presidency is dangerous, sets a bad precedent, and takes aim at the American people's ability to hold the White House accountable."

Joyce continued, "The Administration has used executive orders to delay unpopular parts of the health care law and push back layoffs until after an election. I believe these executive orders violate the Constitution which clearly lays out a system of checks and balances so that no one person can become too powerful."
