Issue Position

Our Founding Fathers wrote in the Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." If future generations are going to inhabit the America that our Founders envisioned and we have enjoyed, we must do three things:
1) Reinvigorate our economy by encouraging investment and entrepreneurship,
2) Reform our government so that it works for us -- not against us, and
3) Renew our basic American values.

Our economy continues to stagnate because of failed government policies at the federal and state levels. In North Carolina we have one of the largest tax burdens in the Southeast. At the national level, we have a corporate income tax rate that encourages investment in other countries and not here. We have regulatory agencies at the federal and state levels that issue multiple and often contradictory regulations making it difficult to do business. The hidden costs are immeasurable, and we are the ones paying for it in the form of higher prices and lost job opportunities.

We need a government that works for us -- not against us. We need to cut taxes so that small businesses can afford to keep the employees they have and hire back the ones they have been forced to lay off. We need to reform our government so that it is a much more efficient and effective instrument that puts in place rules and regulations that facilitate business development -- not stop it. We must bring common sense back to the table and repeal regulations that simply make no sense.

And we also must renew our basic American values -- the moral and spiritual principles -- that made America great in the first place. Matters of the heart cannot be changed with new laws. That starts with the family and the instinctive understanding that we were created by our Creator, as our Founders clearly understood.
