Issue Position

One of the primary responsibilities of the United States government is to provide for the common defense, as established in the United States Constitution. While the United States is in the process of winding down our ground force presence in Iraq, there are still new and emerging threats that must be dealt with throughout the world in order to guarantee our nation's safety.

Additionally, I believe we all owe a debt of gratitude and our freedom to the men and women who serve or have served in the armed forces. As an American and mother of a son in the 101st Airborne Division, I am fully committed to ensuring that our military is equipped to do their job. This involves providing for a long term reauthorization of defense programs, to enable our military to properly plan their operations and conduct the necessary programs that keep this country safe.
