WASHINGTON- Today, U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) voted for the Military Retiree COLA fix, which would reverse changes made to military pensions through the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013. Joyce stated:
"Today we voted to ensure our men and women serving abroad are taken care of once they've returned home. I'm glad to be part of the bipartisan effort to honor our commitment to our veterans."
This measure will offset the $6 billion cost of maintaining the current COLA program for military retirees by adding an additional year of planned automatic spending cuts.
Prior to this vote, Rep. Joyce had already signed onto 2 bills that would immediately reverse this adjustment. The first measure would have eliminated the Bipartisan Budget Act's COLA reduction for all military retirees. The second measure would have eliminated the Act's COLA reduction only for veterans who are medically retired, receiving Combat Related Special Compensation and/or Concurrent Retirement and Disability Payments.
