Congressman Aderholt Statement on Schiavo Legislation

Date: March 21, 2005
Location: Washington, DC

WASHINGTON March 21, 2005 -- Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today made the following statement concerning this morning's vote on legislation concerning the Schiavo bill:

"My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this incredibly difficult time. On Sunday, I met with Terri's brother, Bobby Schindler, and saw his determination to keep his sister alive.

"I voted in favor of the legislation that removes the Schiavo case from the state court, and allows federal courts to review this matter and consider Terri's Constitutional rights. I voted this way because I believe that a human being's value and personal dignity do not change no matter what his or her circumstances. This legislation gives a woman another chance to live - it allows Terri Schiavo to pursue what's outlined in the Declaration of Independence: the pursuit of life."
