Today, U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) voted in favor of a bill that would help to hold the Administration accountable for any security breaches of personal information on the Affordable Care Act's health exchanges.

The Health Exchange Security and Transparency Act, H.R. 3811, would require HHS to notify individuals of any breach on the health care law exchanges that endangers personal data and information within 2 business days.

"Ohioans receiving health coverage on the new exchanges are required to submit a great deal of personal information, and with all of the ongoing maintenance and problems with the site, there's no guarantee their information will be secure," Joyce said. "This legislation will help hold the Administration accountable to Ohioans on the exchanges. Simply put, if people are being forced to share their personal information on healthcare.gov, then the Administration owes them a secure site."

This vote comes after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services's Chief Information Security Officer, Teresa Fryer, stated in a draft memo that the federal exchange "does not reasonably meet ... security requirements" and that "there is also no confidence that Personal Identifiable Information (PII) will be protected."
