Joyce Votes to Help Millions With Cancelled Insurance

Press Release

Date: Nov. 15, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) voted in favor of the Keep Your Health Plan Act (H.R. 3350), which would allow insurers to keep health plans currently available on the individual market to continue next year, providing Americans the opportunity to continue to enroll in those plans without the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate penalty. Joyce stated:

"This bipartisan bill will make good on a simple promise made to the American people: if you like your current plan, you can keep it. Over the past weeks, I've received hundreds of emails, calls, and letters from Ohioans concerned about losing their current coverage and facing higher costs. No matter how you feel about the Affordable Care Act, it's crucial that we work in a bipartisan manner to protect the millions of Americans who have already received cancellation notices."

Rep. Joyce is a cosponsor of the Keep Your Health Plan Act of 2013, introduced by House Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (MI-06). He spoke on the House floor yesterday to tell the story of one of his constituents, Karl from Newbury, whose family of 8 is facing higher health costs next year, due to the Affordable Care Act. That speech can be found here. The Keep Your Health Plan Act passed by a vote of 261-157.
