Let's empower parents and teachers.
I believe parents, teachers and local communities, not Washington bureaucrats and special interest groups, know what's best for children. We must get federal bureaucrats out of local classrooms by eliminating the handcuffs placed on school districts by No Child Left Behind and the Department of Education (DOEd). The DOEd must be phased out and eliminated. Want to repair America? We start with education.
Without question, throwing ever-greater amounts of money at the problem has clearly failed. Instead, we must empower parents and children with school choice because competition among schools to providing the highest quality education at the least cost. This allows parents, rich or poor, to shop their education dollars, sending their children to whatever school they feel best suits their needs. If we are to remain a country where the American dream is in reach for our children for a real chance at a better life, then it starts with a better educational opportunity for all children provided through the competitive marketplace.
